Culinary TEAM SA

Bruce Burns appointed as Culinary Team SA Manager The South African Chefs Association is proud to announce that Chef Bruce Burns has been appointed as Manager of Culinary Team South Africa.

Says Stephen Billingham, President of the South African Chefs Association, “The securing of Chef Bruce Burns to lead and manage our very young, highly skilled and motivated Culinary Team is a wish come true for the Association and all its Members. On behalf of the Board, I would like to re-enforce to Bruce that the entire Association and all Chefs South African are fully behind him and his Team.”

Bruce Burns first became involved in the South African Chefs Association at the tender age of 18, where he acted as a driver for Mr and Mrs Anton Mossiman during the World Association of Chefs Societies Congress, taking place in Johannesburg in 1988.  He also served as SA Chefs Association Director and Vice President for over 10 years.  Bruce is currently the Director of New Business for Menutainment Pty Ltd.

During Bruce's time with the Association, he has both competed in and managed a number of Culinary Teams, as well as representing South Africa at the prestigious Bocuse D'Or in 2001. All of his skill, knowledge and experience will be used as he manages and moulds his Team towards achieving gold in the 2012 Culinary Olympics.

Says Chef Bruce Burns, “It is with great honor that I take on the mantle of manager of Culinary Team SA, although it certainly is a daunting task to follow in the footsteps of the likes of Garth Shnier and Brian McCune. The young team is going to have its challenges, but with the talent and commitment that I have observed so far, I am confident that we will be able to be successful with lots of hard work and dedication. I am looking forward to the challenges and the results!”

Culinary Team South Africa competes every four years at the Culinary Olympics in Erfurt, Germany.  Made up of some of South Africa’s finest culinarians, Team SA represents our country’s chefs and cuisine on the world’s stage. They last competed in the Culinary Olympics in 2008, bringing back a gold medal, two silvers and one bronze, and are aiming to bring back even more accolades at the next Olympics, taking place in 2012.

Culinary Team South Africa would not be possible without the generous support of its sponsors Unilever Foodsolutions and Ecolab; and its partners  Prenox, ChefWorks and Steelite.
