Unilever Food Solutions’ Chef of the Year 2012 was announced at a glittering cocktail function on Friday evening, following the most exciting final cook-off of the year. After hours of heated head-to-head cooking where the cream of the crop of South Africa’s up-and-coming chefs battled it out in a mystery basket contest at the SA Chefs Association premises in Auckland Park, it was Tiaan Langenegger who walked away victorious in the Senior category and Liezl Bruce in the Junior category.

Culinary Team South Africa’s Captains Announced

Culinary Team South Africa has a busy year ahead in its Olympic year and it started with the announcement of the Senior and Junior Team Captains. These National Teams and their Captains are the official squad, which will represent South Africa in the Culinary Olympics early in October in Erfurt, Germany. This Green and Gold Team is currently ranked in 10th place in the world.

Mount Nelson Hotel chef takes home the big prize!

The winner of the prestigious Unilever By Invitation Only Masters 2012 competition was announced at a gala banquet last night (17 April) after a final head-to-head cook-off battle among five of South Africa’s top chefs at the SA Chefs Association premises at the University of Johannesburg. The winner is Dion Vengatass, from the Mount Nelson in Cape Town – the youngest competitor amongst four veteran chefs, who walked off with the grand prize of R40 000.
