Chef Of The Year 2019 Terms and Conditions.

The competition is open to anyone in South Africa who is a qualified cook, trainee or an aspiring chef, currently registered with a training institution. Previous winners of each category may enter COTY 2019, but not the same category as previously entered.

  • Employees of Unilever Food Solutions, their associated companies, their advertising and promotional agencies and their immediate families are excluded from entering.
  • Entries for the Senior and Junior categories open on 10th May 2019 and all entries must be received at the Unilever Head Office by 30th June 2019.
  • Entries for the Team of 4 category must be received by the 30th of June 2019.
  • Any entries received after the closing date will not be considered.
  • Entrants do not need to have SA citizenship, but need to currently reside in South Africa.
  • Unilever South Africa (Pty) Ltd is not responsible for receipt of incomplete, damaged, illegible or incomprehensible entries. All such entries shall be invalid.
  • Unilever South Africa (Pty) Ltd, their promoters, agents and distributors, neither Unilever South Africa (Pty) Ltd nor any of its associated or subsidiary companies, directors, officers, employees or agents, shall be liable for any loss or damage, whether direct, indirect, consequential or otherwise arising from any cause whatsoever, which may be suffered by the entrants participating in the competition.
  • The organisers have the right to change or terminate the competition at their discretion.
  • The competition organisers will not be held responsible for any delays in payments or delivery of the prizes.
  • Participation in the competition constitutes acceptance of the competition rules and entrants agree to abide by the rules.
  • All winners and their guests are required to sign a waiver of liability and indemnity determined by Unilever South Africa (Pty) Ltd in their entire discretion.
  • Unilever South Africa (Pty) Ltd reserves the right to use the images taken of the winner or staff for publicity purposes in any manner they deem fit, without any further remuneration being made payable to the winner.
  • The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
  • Prizes are not transferable.

 

SENIOR & JUNIOR CHEF OF THE YEAR RULES 2019

  1. To enter, create recipes using Unilever Food Solutions products and submit them with accompanying photographs along with your entry form. Recipes must serve three pax.
  2. Entrants do not need to have SA Citizenship, but need to currently reside in South Africa.
  3. Entries must be received on or before 30th of June 2019. Previous winners of the Senior & Junior category may not enter the same category as previouslt entered.
  4. You may enter in one of two categories:
    • Junior (between 18 - 25 years old and less than 5 years experience)
    • Senior (over 25 years old and over 5 years experience)
  5. Unilever Food Solutions reserves the right to change the Chef category entered.
  6. On the basis of entries received, a minimum of five Junior (25 years or younger) entrants and a minimum of five Senior entrants will be chosen in each three regions – Western Province, KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng. You will be notified if you have been selected to participate in the regional cook-offs. These Finalists will be required to participate in cook-offs in their respective regions to take place in Durban; Johannesburg; Cape Town between the 30th July and 1st August 2019.
  7. In regional cook-offs, entrants will be required to prepare a three-course menu using Unilever Food Solutions products from a mystery basket – Unilever Food Solutions will provide all ingredients required in respect for these cook-offs. No fresh ingredients will be supplied when there is a Unilever Food Solutions equivalent product available. This cook-off will be scored on the number of Unilever Food Solutions products used, the novel use of products, the originality of the recipe, the degree of difficulty and the skill utilised, the fusion of flavours and portion obedience.
  8. The Regional Finalists are to arrange their own transport and accommodation for the regional cook-offs.
  9. A minimum of five highest-scoring entrants in the Junior (25 years or younger) category and a minimum of five highest-scoring entrants in the Senior category nationally will then be selected to go through to the Mystery Basket National Finals to be held in Durban on 12th of September 2019. These Finalists will be required to prepare a three-course menu to serve three pax using Unilever Food Solutions products and will be scored on taste, the number of Unilever Food Solutions products used, the novel use of products, the originality of the recipe, the degree of difficulty and the skill utilised, the fusion of flavours and portion obedience.
  10. Unilever Food Solutions will arrange accommodation and transport for the Mystery Basket National Finals held in Durban. Accommodation is inclusive of Bed and Breakfast; transport will be inclusive of airport taxes, but exclusive of extra baggage and overweight cargo charges, should the Finalists be required to fly to Durban.
  11. The winner in each category i.e. Junior, and Senior, will be announced at the awards ceremony on 12th of September 2019.
  12. The winners will be contacted for banking details after the announcement and prize money will be paid into the accounts within 35 working days.

 

TEAM OF 4 CHEF OF THE YEAR RULES 2019

  1. All entries for Team of 4 are to be submitted no later than the 30th of June 2019
  2. To enter, Teams of 4 must be in the catering industry and consist of:
    • 1 x team manager/catering manager/owner/operations manager (26 years and older with 5 years experience)
    • 3 x cooks (18 years or older)
  3. The 3 x cooks in the teams must create recipes using Unilever Food Solutions products and submit their recipes with accompanying photographs along with the entry form. Recipes must serve eight pax and must consist of a cold starter, hot main and a cold dessert.
  4. The Team Manager may not cook. Only the cooks are permitted to cook. The team must serve six plated portions to invited guests and two plated portions per course to judges. There is no restriction with regards to qualification to compete in the competition. If you are a Chef or employed as a Chef/cook/kitchen assistant, you may enter this category. The entire team needs to be from the same establishment.
  5. Previous winners of this category may not enter.
  6. Only one entry allowed per Team of 4.
  7. Teams will be judged on the number of Unilever Food Solutions products used, the novel use of products, the originality of the recipe, the degree of difficulty and the skill required, the fusion of flavours and portion obedience.
  8. The six highest scoring teams nationally will go through to the Mystery Basket National Finals to be held in Durban on 12th September 2019. Participants will be notified if they have been selected to participate in the Mystery Basket National Finals. These Finalists will be required to prepare a three-course menu to serve eight pax using Unilever Food Solutions products. No fresh ingredients will be supplied when there is a Unilever Food Solutions equivalent product available.
  9. Unilever Food Solutions will supply Finalists with tables and chairs, table décor, crockery & cutlery, glassware. Entrant will be required to bring their own knives.
  10. The Finalists will be scored on taste, professional preparation, teamwork and presentation and service.
  11. Unilever Food Solutions will arrange accommodation and transport for the Mystery Basket National Finals held in Durban. Accommodation is inclusive of Bed and Breakfast; transport will be inclusive of airport taxes, but exclusive of extra baggage and overweight cargo; should the Finalists be required to fly to Durban.
  12. The winning team will be announced at the awards ceremony on 12th September 2019 in Durban. 

     

TRIO OF DESSERTS CHEF OF THE YEAR RULES 2019

  1. To enter, participants must create x 3 individual petite dessert recipes using Unilever Food Solutions products and submit them with accompanying photographs along with your entry form.
  2. On the day of the competition, the Chefs will need to plate x 3 identical plates of these x 3 individual petite desserts.
  3. Entrants do not need to have SA Citizenship, but need to currently reside in South Africa.
  4. Entrants must be Professional / Qualified Chefs.
  5. Entries must be received on or before 30th of June 2019.
  6. Unilever Food Solutions reserves the right to change the Chef category entered.
  7.  On the basis of entries received, a minimum of three Chefs will be chosen from each of the three regions – Western Province, KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng to participate in the final held in Durban on the 12th of September 2019. You will be notified if you have been selected to participate in the final. Unilever Food Solutions has the right to amend these numbers, based on the quality of entries received.
  8. The final will be scored on the number of Unilever Food Solutions products used, the novel use of products, the originality of the recipe, flavour and presentation, the degree of difficulty and the skill utilised, the fusion of flavours and portion obedience.
  9. Unilever Food Solutions will arrange accommodation and transport for the Finalists Finals held in Durban. Accommodation is inclusive of Bed and Breakfast; transport will be inclusive of airport taxes, but exclusive of extra baggage and overweight cargo charges, should the Finalists be required to fly to Durban.
  10. The winner will be announced at the awards ceremony on 12th of September 2019.
