Terms & Conditions

  1. Previous winners of the Senior & Junior category may not enter.
  2. Only one entry allowed per Participant.
  3. Unilever Food Solutions reserves the right to change the category entered at any time.
  4. Criteria for entry is as follows:
  5. To enter, Junior and Senior Chefs must submit recipes for a 3 course menu to serve 3 pax using any Unilever Food Solutions products with accompanying photographs.
  6. 6 Junior Chefs and 6 Senior Chefs from each region will be selected to participate in Mystery Basket Regionals to be held in Gauteng, Western Province and KwaZulu-Natal between the 26th July and the 28th July 2017. These Regional finalists will participate in the Mystery Basket Regional cook-offs in their respective regions to take place between 26th July and 28th July 2017.
  7. Participants will be required to prepare a three course menu to serve 3 pax using a mystery basket of meat produce and compulsory Unilever Food Solutions Products. They will also have access to a pantry of other ingredients and Unilever Food Solutions Products.
  8. Unilever Food Solutions will provide all ingredients required in respect for these cook-offs. No fresh ingredients will be supplied when there is a Unilever Food Solutions equivalent product available.
  9. The Mystery Basket Regionals will be scored on the number of Unilever Food Solutions products used, the novel use of products, the originality of the recipe, the degree of difficulty and the skill utilised, the fusion of flavours and portion obedience.
  10. Chefs selected for the Mystery Basket Regionals are to arrange their own transport and accommodation.
  11. The Promoter will select the 6 highest-scoring Participants in the Junior category and 6 highest-scoring Participants in the Senior category nationally. These participants will then be selected to go through to the Mystery Basket Finals to be held in Durban on 6 September 2017.
  12. These finalists will be required to prepare a three course menu to serve 3 pax using a mystery basket of meat produce and compulsory Unilever Food Solutions Products. They will also have access to a pantry of other ingredients and Unilever Food Solutions Products.
  13. The Mystery Basket Finals will be scored on taste, the number of Unilever Food Solutions products used, the novel use of products, the originality of the recipe, the degree of difficulty and the skill utilised, the fusion of flavours and portion obedience.
  14. Unilever Food Solutions will arrange accommodation and transport for the Mystery Basket Finals.  Accommodation is inclusive of Bed and Breakfast. Transport will be inclusive of airport taxes, but exclusive of extra baggage and overweight cargo charges, should the finalists be required to fly to Durban.
  15.  One winner in each category i.e. Junior category and Senior category will be announced at the awards ceremony on 6 September 2017.

Terms and Conditions - Team of Four

  1. Previous winners of the Team of Four category may not enter.
  2.  Only one entry allowed per team of 4.
  3. Unilever Food Solutions reserves the right to change the category entered at any time.
  4. There is no restriction with regards to qualification to compete in the competition. If you are a Chef or employed as a Chef/Cook/Kitchen Assistant, you may enter.
  5. The entire team needs to be from the same chain or company, hotel, restaurant.
  6. To enter, teams of four must consist of:
    1. 1 x Team Manager - must be an Executive Chef /Catering Manager (26 years or over with 5 years experience);
    2. 2 x Chefs/Cooks/Kitchen Assistants (18 years or over & non-exec chefs)
    3. 1 x Waiter.
  7. The Team Manager can only advise - only the 2 Chefs/Cooks/Kitchen Assistants are permitted to cook.
  8. The team must submit recipes for a 3 course menu using Unilever Food Solutions products to serve 8 pax with accompanying photographs, costings, and a pic of their themed table decor.
  9. Teams will be judged on the number of Unilever Food Solutions ingredients used, the novel use of products, the originality of the recipe, the degree of difficulty and the skill required, the fusion of flavours and portion obedience, as well as table presentation.
  10. The 6 highest scoring teams nationally will go through to the Mystery Basket Finals to be held in Durban on 6th September 2017. Finalists will be notified if they have been selected to participate.
  11. The finalists will be required to prepare a three course menu to serve 8 pax with themed table décor using a mystery basket of meat produce and compulsory Unilever Food Solutions Products. They will also have access to a pantry of other ingredients and Unilever Food Solutions Products.
  12. Unilever Food Solutions will provide all ingredients required in respect for these cook-offs. No fresh ingredients will be supplied when there is a Unilever Food Solutions equivalent product available.
  13. The waiter must serve 6 plated portions to the Promoter’s invited guests and 2 plated portions to judges.
  14. Wine must accompany the menu and must be supplied by the finalists.
  15. Unilever Food Solutions will supply finalists with tables and chairs only. Teams must arrange to bring in their own decor, crockery, cutler and glass wear.
  16. The finalists will be scored on taste, professional preparation, teamwork, presentation, service and table décor.
  17. Unilever Food Solutions will arrange accommodation and transport for the Mystery Basket Finals. Accommodation is inclusive of Bed and Breakfast. Transport will be inclusive of airport taxes, but exclusive of extra baggage and overweight cargo, should the finalists be required to fly to Durban.
  18. The winning team will be announced at the awards ceremony on 6th September 2017 in Durban.
