General Terms & Conditions

  1. The Promoter is Unilever South Africa (Pty) Ltd (The Promoter)
  2. The competition is open to Participants residing in South Africa, who are qualified cooks, trainees or an aspiring chef currently registered with a training institution. Previous winners of a category may not enter again in the same category. Participants can enter any one of the following categories: Junior or Senior or Team of 4.
  3. The competition is not open to the Promoter, a director, member, partner, employee, agent or consultant of the Promoter, the marketing service providers or any person who directly or indirectly controls or is controlled by these entities, including their spouses, life partners, business partners or immediate family members.
  4. Competition opens on 3rd May 2017 and closes at 4pm on 7th July 2017. All entries must be received no later than 4pm on 7 July 2017. Any entries received after the closing date will not be considered.
  5. The Promoter is not responsible for receipt of incomplete, damaged, illegible or incomprehensible entries. All such entries shall be invalid.
  6. The Promoter, their promoters, agents and distributors,  nor any of its associated or subsidiary companies, directors, officers, employees or agents, shall be liable for any loss or damage, whether direct, indirect, consequential or otherwise arising from any cause whatsoever, which may be suffered by the participants participating in the competition
  7. The Promoter shall not be responsible for any lost, damaged, delayed, incorrect or incomplete entries for any reason whatsoever.  Proof of sending will not be accepted as proof of receipt.
  8. The Promoter shall not be responsible for the failure of any technical element relating to this promotion that may result in an entry not being successfully submitted.
  9. Responsibility is not accepted for entries lost, damaged or delayed as a result of any network, computer or cell phone hardware or software failure of any kind.  Proof of sending will not be accepted as proof of receipt.
  10. The organizers have the right to change or terminate the competition at their discretion.
  11. The competition organizers will not be held responsible for any delays in payments or delivery of the cash prizes.
  12. The Promoter will contact selected participants to inform them of the venue and times for the cook-off.
  13. Participation in the competition constitutes acceptance of the competition rules and participants agree to abide by the rules.
  14. The Promoter will contact selected participants with all the necessary travel arrangements (if any).
  15. All winners may be required to provide their names, ID numbers and contact details and to sign an acknowledgment of receipt of the prize.
  16. Payment of the cash prizes will be deposited by the Promoters, into a bank account nominated by the winner. Winners will need to provide the agency with an original letter from their bank on the bank’s letterhead confirming proof of their account details which letter must be stamped by the bank, before any amount will be transferred to them. The prizes are not transferrable.  The agency’s print out of the bank transfer will serve as proof of receipt of the prize by the winners.
  17. NOTE: Any attempt to use multiple e-mail accounts or other tactics to enter more than the stated limit may result in disqualification and all associated entries will be void. Entries generated by script, macro, bot, commercial contest subscription, incentives or other means not sponsored by the Promoter entering service sites or any other automated means and entries by any means that subvert the entry process or do not conform to the terms or spirit of these competition rules, will void the entry and may disqualify the participant.
  18. All winners and their guests are required to sign a waiver of liability and indemnity determined by The Promoter in their entire discretion.
  19. A copy of these terms and conditions can be found on the www.ufs.com  website throughout the competition period.
  20. The Promoter reserves the right to use the images taken of the winners for publicity purposes in any manner they deem fit, without any further remuneration being made payable to the winner.
  21. The judge’s decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
  22. Prizes are not transferable.
  23. The Promoter reserves the right to delete any information uploaded by a participant which the Promoter, in its absolute discretion, believes is illegal, obscene, offensive or defamatory, or infringes the intellectual property rights of a third party, or is otherwise inappropriate for a campaign designed for mass audience entertainment.  
  24. Participants warrant that they have full rights to the images and recipes that they submit and that the use of the said material shall not constitute a breach of any third party’s copyright or other intellectual property rights.
  25. Participants agree that by submitting their recipes and/or images, they grant permission to the Promoter to use the images and/or recipes or any part thereof, in any and all media for promotional / marketing purposes with no consideration payable to the participants.
  26. For the year following your selection as Winner of Chef of the Year, you will be required to endorse UFS by assisting in various campaigns including Charity work.
