Nearly every aspect of our daily lives has been touched by the measures our government has implemented to slow the spread of COVID-19. As we slowly reopen to a new normal, sit down restaurants are now allowed to operate with certain measures in place.

As a member of The Restaurant Collective, and in line with the World Health Organization guidelines; we have looked at everything your establishment needs to know as you open up for sit-down restaurant dining.

Reopening Restaurant General Standards to follow:

APPOINT A COVID-19 SAFETY OFFICER

Your appointed officer must be trained in COVID-19 protocols and will monitor and ensure that all employees are following the rules.

EVERYONE MUST WEAR A MASK

All employees, guests, suppliers, visitors and delivery agents must complete the COVID-19 Health Safety Check on arrival and exit of your establishment.

PUT SOCIAL DISTANCING MEASURES IN PLACE

Use stickers and tape to ensure that any people in the restaurant are always a minimum of 1.5m apart.

SET UP A COLLECTION AREA

Ensure that an area is setup separately from where food is prepared for the delivery collection and contactless takeaways.

KEEP EVERYONE INFORMED

Keep customers, employees, suppliers, visitors and delivery agents informed on your operating directions and updates.

  • Set up sanitising stations
  • Put out communications for touchless menus and other info

The current situation has forced everyone to take a hard look at their businesses. Above else reopening your restaurant means making sure your guests as well as your staff feel safe. This safety comes from making sure your restaurant reopens in line with government mandates and the highest levels of hygiene.

The staying power of the many new offerings will be determined on their business results. However, hopefully the sense of obligation and renewed purpose among the restaurant community will remain permanent. Guests will return to their favorite restaurants to celebrate and socialize again, and operators will be ready to continue to entertain and delight them. Even if it looks a little different than before.
