To offer our support, Unilever Food Solutions through #FairKitchens have partnered with The South African Depression and Anxiety Group to launch a free 24/7 helpline.
We chatted to the team to find out why the #FairKitchens free 24/7 helpline is necessary in the Foodservice Industry.
WHO IS SADAG
"For 26 years, The South African Depression and Anxiety Group has served as a support network for South Africans who live with mental health problems and associated disorders. We currently manage a 22-line counselling and referral Call Centre that assists in over 600 calls a day from everyday South Africans."
WHAT IS THE FAIRKITCHENS HELPLINE?
"The #FairKitchens helpline provides free telephonic counselling, containment, crisis intervention and support. The toll-free helpline will offer first line intervention for those affected by mental illness."
WHY DO WE NEED A HELPLINE IN THIS INDUSTRY?
"In a study conducted by the Research & Analysis Department of the HTA School of Culinary Art, alarming statistics were released where 48% of the respondents said that they were experiencing stress-related illnesses."
WHAT TYPE OF STRESSES DO KITCHENS FACE?
"Some of the reported stressors included long working hours, constant pressure, unskilled labour forces, workplace politics, feeling burn-out, conflicts and the late-night shifts. According to the study, 63.4% of the respondents were from the Africa and the Indian Oceanic region."
