Our new Robertsons pre-portioned sachet meal solutions are free from GMOs and have no MSG added and are also non-irradiated*. Here’s a little more information on what this means:

When people talk about GMOs they are referring to Genetically Modified Organisms, which are crops bred according to very clever technology. Genetic modification happens when breeders take the specific trait that they want from one plant or organism and transfer it to another plant.

An example of this is the Arctic Apple, which is an apple that has been bred to not turn brown after it has been cut.

Many customers would prefer GMO-free foods, so we’ve formulated our sachet meal solutions to be GMO free.

Irradiation is designed to kill harmful bacteria like salmonella and E.coli, to prevent spoilage and increase the shelf life of products.

Irradiation is the process of exposing food to a controlled amount of energy – gamma rays, X-rays or electron beam radiation.

Although it is safe, not all consumers love the idea of irradiation – even though the product is left free from all irradiation energy. So, we looked at other ways to decontaminate foods – ways that many people would prefer. This is why we have chosen not to irradiate our new sachet meal solution range.

We expose our spices to saturated steam at high temperatures (121 °C to 134 °C), which kills all microorganisms that may be detrimental to the health of your diners.

Monosodium Glutamate (MSG) is a flavour enhancer that provides an umami flavour to intensify the savoury and meaty flavour of foods.

Scientifically, MSG is the sodium salt of the common amino acid, glutamic acid and occurs naturally in our bodies and in many types of food, including mushrooms, tomatoes, grapes and cheeses. Yep – it’s a natural substance!

It’s been safely used for more than a hundred years to balance flavour in savoury dishes, and can even reduce the salt content of a dish – helping people to lower their salt content without compromising on taste.

Even so, lots of people think MSG is harmful, and would prefer not to consume it. And people should be able to choose what they put into their bodies, which is why our sachet meal solutions have no commercially produced MSG added.
