Hellmann’s Mayonnaise has always been about real, simple ingredients. It began in 1913, when Richard and Margaret Hellmann opened the Hellmann’s deli in New York.
With a touch of perfectionism and a flair for innovation, the couple created their own mayonnaise – crafted from only a few, natural ingredients. It very soon became a bestseller. So proud of the product were the couple that they tied a signature blue ribbon around the jar, a tradition that remains to this day.

Although the Hellmann’s knew they had a great product, they couldn’t have known that it would become the world’s number 1 selling mayonnaise*. Nor could they have known the product would endure for over 100 years.
